Modern outdoor music and performing arts festivals are often held over the summer months when the weather plays a huge part in the organisational side of festivals. Most people have to work hard for a living and the summer festivals are a wonderful way to leave their worries behind them and head off for the festival campsites, where they will without doubt meet a host of new friends and aquaintances.
The Festival Spirit prevails at these gatherings and a sense of being on a 'different plane' or 'in another world' are common phrases used to describe the unusually good atmosphere at a festival, compared to ordinary day to day events. Random, and not so random acts of fun, entertainment, kindness, genorosity, caring and understanding go on, and not unnoticed by most which leads to a sense of community or belonging, new experiences and sensations, and as a matter of course, new friendships.
